Heritage
Paintwrights advises heritage architects and home owners on the repair or reproduction of original wood graining, marbling and stencilLing in Victorian and Federation heritage buildings. This includes analysis of paint scrapings, research in archives, recreation of original designs and new sympathetic design work. We also design interpretive displays and signage and won a high commendation in 2006 from the NSW National Trust for our sign at the Observer Hotel in The Rocks.
Where necessary, new work carefully replicates the original using the traditional techniques and materials such as beer, whiting and pure pigments. Hand techniques are promoted at all times and
straight lines achieved by hand rather than modern expedients such as laser lines and masking tape. We are also experienced in "buonfresco", the traditional practice of applying a lime mortar on to which designs are painted. Our artists have taught traditional techniques at colleges and put on demonstrations for the Historic Houses Trust (NSW).Restoration has included:
